This amount is currently set at $100,000, and the bond needs to be renewed every two years. To register as an immigration consultant with the Secretary of State’s office, several essential steps must be completed. These requirements ensure compliance and integrity within the immigration consulting profession.

1. Pass a Background Check.
2. Submit the following items to the Secretary of State:
   1. Copy of your California Immigration Consultant Bond Surety Bond ($100,000)
   2. Completed Immigration Consultant Disclosure(PDF) form.
   3. Copy of a valid and current photo identification.
   4. 2" x 2" passport photo.
   5. $30.00 filing fee.

Prior to engaging in the business or acting in the capacity of an immigration consultant, a person must obtain a $100,000 bond from a surety (admitted to do business in California) and file all requirements with the Secretary of State's office.

Surety bonds for immigration consultants must be renewed before they expire. Failure to renew in time means the consultant cannot operate until they meet all requirements again.
